Well before Miles Wolfe's Northern League came into existance, the Original Northern League operated in the Upper Midwest. Unlike the current independent Northern League, these teams were under the umbrella of Minor League Baseball. The original Northern League started operations in 1903 and played erratically until 1917 when it ceased operations. It began again in 1933 and this time played steadily until it suspended play for the war from 1942 til 1945. It then continued on from 1946, til the league finally folded in 1971.
