The Braves had been playing at Sumter S.C.'s Riley Field and seemed to feel quite at home in Macon. The team changed its name to the Macon Braves and immediately put up a winning season going 83-58 and making it to the playoffs. They wouldn't win but that didn't matter. What mattered was that Chipper Jones was playing 3rd base. The 19 year old first round draft pick was playing in his first pro season and put up an impressive 24 doubles, 11 triples, 15 homers while batting .326 while driving in 98 RBI and stealing 40 bases.
