Carl Lewton Stadium began 1941 without a team. In June, a struggling St. Louis Browns
franchise from the Class C Western Association announced that it was going
to move its team out of St. Joseph Missouri's Bob Welch Stadium and into Carl
Lewton's. The team was pathetic at best finishing the season with a 40-96 record
(.296)... a whopping 54 games out of 1st place. It was sad but it was at least...
baseball (though would say it wasn't). They did however feature Frank Mancuso
(33 2B, 18 HR, .303) who would spend 4 seasons playing for the Browns as well
as Jim Bilbrey (8-13, 5.79) who pitched for the Browns and Dennis Burns (1-2,
9.41) who would pitch for the Philadelphia A's |
