Charles Gibson was leading the league with 55 runs and 71 hits, while Bob Playfair
led in wins with 9 and Jim Obenour had a record of 6-1. All of this combined
to give the Pirates an incredible record of 37-18 (.673). Sadly two teams had dropped
out the season before leaving the Ark-Mo league with only 4 teams. Two more
began to struggle and on July 1st, the league disbanded. With the Pirates up
ahead by 10 and 1/2 games in July, most just assume the Championship to Carthage
which would have been their 3rd straight. It was never made official though
and we'll never know what would have been. |
