New York-Penn League

New York Penn League – The baseball teams and baseball stadiums of the Single-A NY-Penn League and the entire history of the NY Penn League and PONY League baseball parks

The New York Penn League began in 1939 as the PONY League due to a number of Ontario based Canadian teams. Though they became known as the NY-Penn League in 1957, they still continued to feature Ontario franchises every now and again. The NY-Penn League is a short season league meaning it does not start play until the summer while most other leagues will begin their seasons back in April. The reason for the delay is because these teams are rostered up with the NCAA picks from the MLB Amateur Draft… which doesn’t occur until after the NCAA and High School seasons ends around mid-June. For most of the signees on these rosters, this will be their first time taking the field as a professional baseball player.
