The Great Central League was one of the earliest of the upstart independent leagues,
predating many of the successful indy leagues that exist today. Though it was dubbed the Great Central League, there wasn’t much “great” about it. The league played in makeshift Collegiate ballparks with Lafayette’s Loeb Stadium being the only true minor league stadium. The GCL limped to the end of the 1994 season, never to be seen again. Still was a part of the growing independent baseball movement which began in the early to mid-1990’s. |
