Interstate League

(Class B) Gallery of Ballparks

The Interstate League served as a Class B league from 1939 until the advent of Television wiped out the league in 1952 (along with 2/3rds of the other leagues in the nation). Unlike most leagues that began during this time, the Interstate League was a high enough classification that it did not break for the war time effort. Nearly every team in the league held an affiliation to a Major League franchise. The Interstate League was based out of the mid-Atlantic region with franchises in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Jersey. Another Interstate League had played in the Ohio-West Virginia region in the early 20th century. That wasn’t related to this one. However there was an Interstate League that was based out of Pennsyvania that played for 1 season in 1932, which was related to this league. Though it wouldn’t make it past the one season due to the trials of the depression, it did lay the seeds for this future league to make a tremendous impact on the Minor League system a that time and produced such Hall of Famers as Nellie Fox, Robin Roberts and Willie Mays.
