The Central League was part of an evolution that began in 1991 with the formation
of the Southeastern League. The Tex-LA League formed in 1994, taking the best
teams from the SEL to build itself upon firm ground for expansion. The Texas Louisiana
League, soon finding itself with many teams from outside of Texas and Louisiana,
including Mississippi, Alabama, Missouri, Colorado and Florida. The “TEX-LA”
brand became too limiting and outdated thanks to its exponential growth.
In 2002, the name was officially changed to the Central Baseball League. The
league lasted until 2005 when the Independent “super league”, the American Association
came into play, taking the best teams of the Northern League and this Central
League. Those from the CBL that didn’t join the AA went to another new Independent
League… the United League. When the NAL ultimately failed, the Central
Baseball League remained defunct. Many of these stadiums haven’t seen professional
baseball since. |
