Well before Miles Wolfe’s Northern League came into existance, the Original Northern
League operated in the Upper Midwest and Northwoods regions of the United States.
Unlike the modern day independent Northern League, this was an affiliated
Single-A system under the umbrella of Minor League Baseball. The original Northern
League started operations in 1903 and played erratically until 1917 when
it ceased operations. The original Northern League then revived again as a far
more solid organization in 1933; and this time played unablated (except for the
war) until the league finally folded in 1971. Some of the most beautiful ballpark
in America were in this league. Some are no longer in existence but some live
on in the known as the “Northwoods League”. |
