The Colonial League began in 1947 with the end of World War II. At the time, Minor League Baseball was coming back from a 3 year hiatus in which only a handful of leagues had continued to play ball. With the end of the war, a new patriotism for the United States rose and with that… a new found respect for the “National Pastime”. The Colonial League was just one of nearly 100 new affiliated Minor League systems that sprung up all over the U.S. and Canada (and even Mexico) and lived until the advent of Television brought a quick end to all of these start up leagues. The Colonial League was based out of the “Tri-State Area” of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey and was actually one of the highest ranking leagues in Minor League Baseball (Class B), despite the fact that most of the teams playing in this league, played in converted football stadiums or quickly erected aluminum grandstands.
