The Evangeline League was born during the WPA days of the depression. The ballparks
in this league represented the cities of the Bayou which had now come together
to form a Class D Minor League organization (Class C after 1949)… officially
recognizing Louisiana as a hub for Minor League Baseball. These local Bayou
towns all sported their own beautiful ballparks, many made simply of wood. Few
of these ballparks are still standing today though Crowley, Lake Charles and of
course Alexandria all still give us a wonderful glimpse into the world of Minor
League Baseball that once thrived here in the parishes. The Evangeline League
would highlight that talents of Louisiana for 21 years. The Alexandria Aces are
the only team which appeared in every season. |
