The Golden League had quietly grown to become one of the biggest independent baseball
leagues in North America. Growing out of the ashes of the old Western Baseball League, the Golden League took over many of the former ballparks of the defunct WBL. Once
established, the Golden League went “radical” as this Southwest United States
based minor league moved into Edmonton and Alberta Canada. They followed that
up with a move to Victoria Canada & Tijuana thereafter… then Hawaii in 2010.
In 2011 they then joined forces with the Northern League and United Leagues to form the
North American League which got so big and vast that travel and expenses doomed this once great baseball
league to becoming just another sad statistic. The Golden League is a certainly
a case study of becoming too big, too fast. Though they had some terrific and
grandiose plans, there simply wasn’t enough money to back up what the unexpected
costs of having a league playing in the United States, Hawaii, Mexico and
Canada at the same time. |
