Welcome to the Northwest League… a “Short Season Single-A system”, meaning it doesn’t begin play until late June… filling its roster from the June MLB Amateur Draft of high school and collegiate players that were picked to be the future stars of the MLB. For many of these players, this is usually their first taste of professional baseball, and what better way to experience it then by playing in the wonderfully bucolic ballparks of the Pacific Northwest. Originally known as the “Western International League” the Northwest League can actually trace its roots all the way back to 1919 when the Western International League first began play just after World War I, before being rebranded as the Northwest League in 1955.
