The Western League began in 1995 on the Western Coast of the United States with teams
in Oregon, Washington State and California as well as an old rodeo stadium
in British Columbia. The league slowly grew to include franchise in Nevada and
Utah while trying out a few of the Spring Training ballparks of Phoenix Arizona…
trying unsuccessfully to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks as a cheaper alternative.
While the league had a high amount of turnover with teams entering and
exiting the league, some of its teams were successful enough to find a more permanent
home in the Golden and North American Leagues starting in 2005 which grew
out of the ashes of the Western Baseball League and ran from Texas through California
and into Hawaii and Northern Canada. |
