The Sunset League was a Class C Minor League system which began in 1947 and lasted
until 1950 when it merged with the Arizona Texas League to form the Southwest International League (click HERE to see the ballparks of the SIL). The Sunset League was one of the most exciting
leagues in baseball as it featured not only American based teams, but Mexican
based franchises as well. These Mexican teams held the “Class C Minor League” designation
just as much as the American teams and some even had Major League affiliates.
After the merger, the “SIL” would only last for 2 years before disbanding.
